Review of The Meg (2018):
The Meg, directed by Jon Turteltaub, is a science fiction action-thriller that dives deep—literally—into monster movie territory. The story follows a group of scientists who accidentally unleash a gigantic prehistoric shark, the Megalodon, from the depths of the ocean. Jason Statham stars as Jonas Taylor, a rescue diver who must face the beast and save the day.
The film delivers exactly what it promises: big action, a bigger shark, and plenty of underwater thrills. It doesn’t take itself too seriously, which works in its favor. Statham brings his usual tough-guy charm, and the movie balances suspense with light humor and impressive visual effects.
While the plot is predictable and the characters aren’t deeply developed, The Meg succeeds as a fun, over-the-top summer blockbuster. It’s the kind of movie where you sit back, grab some popcorn, and enjoy the ride—jumpscares, shark attacks, and all.
